Arrival inside

‘Arrival Inside’ draws together the work of six artists who deal with, albeit in differing ways, a particular moment of composition. This sees within their practices a remaking and recontextualising of a process of collected, examined and combined archives and references, both drawing from outside cultural and historical references and a personal archive rooted in their processes themselves.

Within this lies a network of connotations that is established through a form of dialogue and relationships rather than explicit meaning. There is often a system of remaking and recontextualising which is then left as a trace, a gesture or remnant as if the very ingredients are shuffled and shifted of meaning and material - a formal reduction into a network and arrangement of now abstract forms.

There is a search for a visual mediation of a variety of contents for these artists, where a process of thinking, memorising, translating and imagining is begun and a network of references and connotations is established. All of which draw from loose interpretation, into constructions of these moments of translation.

Born in 1967, Alexandra Bircken lives & works in Cologne, Germany. Thea Djordjadze (b. 1971, working in Cologne) recent exhibitions include ‘Endless Enclosure,’ Kunsthalle Basel; Spruth Magers, Cologne’ Kunstverein Nurnberg; Un soir, j’ai assis la beauté sur mes genoux. And I found her bitter and i hurt her, with Rosemarie Trockel , SprüthMagers, Munich; ‘History of an Encounter,’ Galerie Micky Schubert, Berlin & 5th Berlin Biennale, Berlin.

Owen Gump’s (b. 1980, lives & works in Cologne) recent exhibitions include solos at BQ, Cologne; Goethe Institut, Dusseldorf. Recent group shows include ‘Nach dem Sputnik’, KIT Kunst im Tunnel, Düsseldorf & Emprise Art Award, Stadtmuseum, Düsseldorf.

Born in 1976, Alexis Marguerite Teplin lives & works in London. Recent exhibitions include ‘Viaggio in Italia, For Guilietta,’ Car Projects, Bologna; ‘Yes Parisol, My Parisol,’ Hotel, London; ‘Flash,’ GSK Contemporary, Royal Academy, London; ‘Performance in A Sleepwalker is Standing,’ Milena Muzquiz, Liverpool Biennale & ‘Jenny Lind,’ Concrete, Hayward Gallery, London.

Gerda Scheepers (b. 1979, lives & works in Berlin) recent exhibitions include ‘Inside Arrangement, International,’ Galerie Micky Schubert, Berlin; ‘Elegance,’ Kölnischer Kunstverein (collaborative work with Thea Djordjadze & Rosemarie Trockel) & ‘We Stopped in The Colonnade,’ Hotel, London.
